How Many Foreigners Are In Bacolod? Answer: Not Many!

A recent report released by the Bacolod Immigration Office said that there are around 1000 foreigners registered in Bacolod City.

This number, however, is the total amount of Permanent and Temporary Residents. It does not include foreigners on tourist, student, business, or medical visas.

The largest amount of foreigners are Indians. According to the report, the Indians are mostly owners of sari-sari stores. The second largest is Chinese, who are large real estate holders. Then followed by Americans (there are half as many Americans as Indians), then Germans, and finally Japanese.

Nonetheless, once you count in the large amount of Japanese and Korean students, the number of foreigners greatly increases. As far as tourists and business visas are concerned, there are not too many. Whenever I go to the immigration office, it's virtually empty.

When all the numbers are totaled, Americans are probably fifth in the total amount of foreigners. It likely looks like this:

Koreans
Japanese
Indians
Chinese
Americans
Germans
Everyone else

What's funny, though, is that with such a small number of Americans (roughly 120), everyone seems to know one. Or at least, they like to pretend they do. There are many, many "stories" about Americans in Bacolod, mostly bad stories, and mostly not true.
