Advantages:
Save money
Taking a jeep in Bacolod costs 7 pesos (5.5 for students, elderly, and disabled). This is good for us to 5 KM. Basically, if you are going from the Central Market to Airport, Bata, Mandalagan, Homesite, La Salle, or most places within the city,
With that being said, it's truly up to the driver's discretion. Some drivers will make you pay 8 instead of 7 and some Bata drivers will charge 9 to go all the way to Bata.
If you are going to a farther place, like Sum-Ag, you'll have to pay either 9 or 10 pesos. Again, it depends on the driver.
Nonetheless, you will definitely be saving money by taking a jeep.
Let's say that your vehicle gets around 9km/liter. That's roughly 2 trips by car. A liter of gasoline costs around 55 pesos and a liter of diesel is around 46 pesos. So instead of paying 14 pesos, you would be paying at least 46.
Of course, if you are always traveling with 4 people on board, or you have a vehicle with amazing gas mileage, you'll be better off taking a car.
Easy
All you have to do is wave one down and they generally all go to Central Market. Those that don't will go to Burgos St. So after a night of drinking, just take a jeep!
They are everywhere
They can be found on every single main road and within most subdivisions. Compare this to driving and sometimes you have to walk a long distance to get to where you parked your car.
Disadvantages:
Pickpockets
This is a problem in all crowded places. Pickpockets are most prone during rush hour. Watch your pockets! Also watch for men with bags on their lap.
The time
Obviously jeeps take a long time compared to cars, especially when you are going a long distance or going passed either Central Market or Libertad. Some drivers love to stop at every corner and every mall.
Status symbol
Some people see taking a jeep as being poor. And, perhaps it is. However, don't let that keep you away from it! People who judge by what transportation others take are simply not living the truth.
