Bob's Cafe Restaurant

Sate Babe at Bob's in Robinsons Place next to the Supermarket
Bob's, also known as The Pastry Shop of Bob's (simply a name placed on some of the restaurants), is a restaurant in Bacolod that serves a wide variety of food. There are are several restaurants around the city and each seem to have a slightly different menu. It is marketed as American food, but it really isn't.

Menu price is anywhere from 80-250 pesos depending on what you wish to order. The best Bob's I have eaten at is the one at Robinsons Place. The worst is the one at SM. If you have been to either of these, you will notice how empty the SM Bob's is compared to how full the one at Robinsons is, especially around dinner time.

Their menu includes items such as hamburgers, sate, chicken,  and various panini sandwiches. Those four  are served at all the Bob's I have been to. However, other menu items change. For example, the burrito is served at Gaisano City but not at SM. SM's Bob's serves tuna fettuccine and spaghetti, that isn't served at Robinsons (at least, it wasn't last time I checked).

Here's the thing about Bob's. The "American" food is actually Filipino flavored American food. For example, the hamburger is nothing like a true American hamburger. American hamburgers are very rarely spiced, and when they are, they are only lightly seasoned to leave the flavor of the beef to still be the overpowering flavor. In Bob's hamburger, the overpowering flavor is garlic. That's very Filipino!

Furthermore, Bob's is basically a fast food restaurant that has sit down prices (no waiters). They serve their food extremely quickly. However, their food quality is also like that of fast food restaurants. For example, their fettuccine isn't really fettuccine (they use a Chinese noodle instead of authentic Italian). As well, the alfredo sauce is essentially cheezee cheese mixed with milk. They don't even bother adding spices. Real alfredo is a mixture of cream, seasoning, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, and other white cheeses. Bob's sauce is yellow and not even white.

My wife and I use to love their sate babe. Nonetheless, the past few times we ate at Bob's it was horrific. The rice is old and/or under cooked and the pork wasn't even fully cooked (bloody inside!). How can a restaurant not fully cook small chunks of pork on a bbq stick? You can walk up and down any street of Bacolod and find better pork BBQ than that. Frankly, even the sauce sucked. It was sour as if it was bad already.

Frankly, if you are only traveling in Bacolod, head elsewhere to eat. You can get much better food for much better prices in other restaurants.
